So what happened to school discipline? There has been a decline for a long time in school discipline. In the 1990s, when school districts became self-contained and no state required standardized test results to be reported, teachers learned all they could about school discipline. It was hard and risky to discipline a student with a high score, but when a teacher went too far the teacher could be penalized with probation or an end-of-hours wage, so many teachers chose to go ahead and fight it out. It took a new generation of children to overcome these fears not just with the advent of standardized tests but even beyond.
