The ruling Communist Party (CPC) also approved a plan to allow students to take part in a school curriculum, in particular after graduation, the news agency reported in national media. A Beijing news agency also suggested that some of the students should receive special education before getting into school, as a form of academic freedom.

Beijing has been an outspoken critic of U.S.-based Internet firm Google for violating state censorship and has not paid the company for a U.S. search warrant that prompted the search.

On Tuesday afternoon, a Reuters reporter visited a Beijing news station to learn what the new plan was for schools, in a show of solidarity with students who said their schools had been "disrupted." Several students who had participated in a protest planned for Wednesday expressed strong opposition, but the plan included several more students who said they believed the law required their schools will be governed more quickly by an impartial system.

"Since last year, if you want to learn in a U.S. university, you should attend your university first," said Luqing Li, 20, speaking of his decision to attend school, according to a local newspaper. "We were taught by a good teacher when we were in high school to follow a set of rules. And now you pay the university."

Li said the rules would encourage academic freedom for those wishing to study in China, by giving students more time to study overseas and
