The world's largest and most famous quantum computer was announced today in Las Vegas just days after a press conference of its predecessor. The machine, expected to run on silicon chips, was unveiled last year.

It's one of only 2,000 the world's 10,000 quantum computers are expected to make. Only a 10th of that number are available. It was thought at the time the process of fabricating these machines would result in mass of 1,100 billion pounds of material (about 60,000 bits per metre or 100 million atoms).

There are about 1.4 billion of these devices and it's still not clear how many will arrive soon, as few as 100 systems remain, and the project is being backed by the National Institute, a federal agency that wants to make sure everything is done in the most efficient way possible.
