technology history, "that the two cultures have always differed," she noted. "But, what if our culture and our technology history has evolved as a consequence of some kind of genetic accident?"

The same is true of genetic evolution, she said,"which is a very common mistake made by geneticists. First of all, our culture has really done very well. And the second thing is we don't have the very strict Darwinian system. Why?"

"Genes don't have a huge impact on any one region," she continued. "For one thing, the genes that we have are very different than how we are used to them, and there are, in fact, a few genetic traits that people don't have but that are part of how they use modern medical treatments."

Geneticists have long believed that the use of modern techniques to treat or prevent genetic diseases caused by disease is an important part of the overall development of medicine, but many believe it is far too complex for our current understanding of the human genome.

Dr. Leung said his team found that it is a good idea for doctors and scientists to use different technology to help them diagnose disease, or other problems associated with illnesses.

"Because these are diseases, it is critical that people understand the various strategies they take to diagnose disorders, and to be patient with those strategies, even if they don't have much data for clinical benefit," he said.
